Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments now has an official launch trailer revealed today on the official Playstation blog. The game will feature six types of crime cases including murders, disappearances or thefts, and more to be discovered while assisting Holmes to take down the villains. Players will accompany Holmes in a world of “hard to put your finger on” crime, and each case will require patience – an interval of 3 to 4 hours depending on the player’s investigating skills. The game will give players total freedom, they will also be facing moral dilemmas, producers say. “Each case offers real freedom to players, who will have to make important moral choices instead of simply enforcing justice by the book.”
These decisions will reflect in a series of realistic and unforeseen outcomes in some instances. The character’s reputation will also be affected by these judgements. “You will have to bear the weight of your choices, as Crimes and Punishments offers an exciting system of actions/consequences that forces players to think before acting by giving true depth to every decision they make.” Frogwares developers have decided to go with a more up to date character for the new Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, somewhat different to what Sir Arthur Conan Doyle portrayed in his novels. The new launch trailer lets us in on a few investigation scenarios in which the famous Holmes is taking statements, and gathers evidence to get to the bottom of a series of murders, or disappearances.
Sherlock will read his enemies’ movements, and will gradually add the pieces to the puzzle to find ingenious answers if players manage to push his right buttons. Crimes and Punishments is the first game in the long Adventures of Sherlock Holmes series to be built on Unreal Engine 3 and will be launched on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC, this September 30th.
