Double Eleven Limited’s strategy shooter Frozen Synapse Prime is out now on the PlayStation Vita console in the United States and can be purchased from the PlayStation store. In order to mark the game’s release, the developer also shared a video clip, giving players an in-depth look at the gameplay, focusing on advanced tactics.
According to Double Eleven, Frozen Synapse Prime is designed in such a way that anyone can become a competitive or advanced player. In this game, winning a firefight is not down to luck, but to the players’ tactics. If someone in your squad gets shot, you will know why that happened so that you can prepare for it next time. Since the battlefields are procedurally generated, with infinite possibilities, learning the map is not an option. Therefore, you will have to study the terrain once you get there and find out where can you find cover and how you can use the land to your advantage.
In Frozen Synapse Prime, all the classes are balanced, each having its own strengths and weaknesses. Double Eleven uses Rocket Launchers as examples, stating that, while they can blow up walls, they are vulnerable in close-quarters. The game also features several advanced commands such as targeting (which allows you to target specific areas), continue-on-sight and slide (so that units don’t move slow unless they have to). Last but not least, there is the ‘check’ command, which allows you to move quickly through the rooms, only glancing in certain areas.
In addition to the before-mentioned features, players will be able to make use of the Vita’s touch controls. Double Eleven states that initially they only wanted the camera controls to be assigned to the touchscreen, but eventually things changed and now you can choose whether to use full touch controls to play the game or to use a combination of touch and button inputs.
