The Gionee Elife S5.1 has been said to be the world’s thinnest phone, but it hasn’t been official so far. Now, it seems that Guinness World Records has accepted the title for the Gionee Elife S5.1. The latest Gionee smartphone is a mere 5.1 mm thick, immediately followed by its older brother, the Gionee Elife S5.5, with a 5.5 mm thickness. There are other thin phones out there, like the Vivo X3 with a 5.75 mm thin body, Huawei Ascend P6 with a 6.18 mm body, Sony Xperia Z Ultra with 6.5 mm thin body and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha with a 6.7 mm thin body.
The Gionee Elife S5.1 was released at the beginning of September in China and it immediately gained popularity because of its surprisingly thin build. The Gionee smartphone is a mid-range device with a Super AMOLED 4.8 inch display with a 720*1280 resolution, powered by a quad core Snapdragon 400 CPU backed by 1 GB RAM and 16 GB non-expandable internal storage. The Gionee Elife S5.1 also features an 8 MP rear camera and a wide-angle 5 MP selfie camera on the front. The device runs Android 4.3 with Gionee Amigo 2.0 UI with the juice being supplied by a 2100 mAH battery. The estimate price of the Gionee Elife S5.1 is $325, which is not that bad for a record-breaking mid-range smartphone.
The Gionee Elife S5.1 has been officially recognized by the Guiness World Records as the world’s thinnest phone ever made and that will certainly bring a fair amount of popularity to the company. Gionee hasn’t been around for long on the smartphone market, their first release being the Dream D1 released in 2013, followed by the Ctrl V series, Pioneer series, Gpad Series, the M2 and the Elife series. Besides the Gionee Elife S5.1, the company is famous in China for the Elife E7, a high-end phone with a 16 MP camera and the Elife E7 Mini which features a 13 MP rotating camera similar to the OPPO N1 and N1 Mini.
The drawback of the Gionee Elife S5.1 is that it can only be found in China at the moment and it’s not compatible with international communications, but we hope that by obtaining the record from the Guiness World Records will give a well-deserved boost to the company and prompt them to make the device available worldwide. Both the Gionee Elife S5.1 and S5.5 are at the top of the thinnest smartphones list, and will not be dethroned any time soon, in my opinion.
