Following their streak of Dungeons & Dragons enhancements, Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2, Beamdog and Wizards of the Coast have announced at Penny Arcade Expo that Icewind Dale is next in line for revamp. Beamdog’s division, Overhaul Games, has already started work on Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition for PC, MAC, iOS and Android. Bioware’s Infinity Engine classic Icewind Dale started back in 2000, as part of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. According to the game’s description over at beamdog.com, they have “added 25% more Ice, and 34% more Wind! Dale levels remain unchanged.” The enhanced edition of Icewind Dale will include new spells and items along with a new interface, parts of the game that haven’t made the original cut and a cross-platform multiplayer.

- A new “Story Mode” difficulty setting to allow players to experience all of the story with none of the Game Over screens

Beamdog’s Trent Oster tweeted that “It is now official, Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is available for pre-order on Beamdog“. The game is also available for pre-order over at Icewind Dale’s website. Those who pre-order will receive an “exclusive forum badge and will be eligible for a chance to be selected to participate in the Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition beta”.
