AMD announces Intel i5 competitor in the form of the new E Series processors

The two major manufacturers are at it again apparently. Intel came out and announced its latest line of i7 processors earlier at Pax Prime and AMD followed shortly with an announcement of their own. But interestingly enough, the company presented a competitor for the i5 series and not the i7. The new AMD E Series is aimed at PC owners who want to build their own custom machine, but don’t plan on paying an arm and a leg to do it. These octa-core Piledriver 95-watt processors are part of the FX lineup and go by the names of FX-8370E and FX-8320E. The former has a base clock speed of 3.3 GHz and can be purchased for $200, while the latter is priced at $147 and has a clock speed of 3.2 GHz.

AMD says that pairing the new E Series with the R9 285 graphics card and an AMD 970 motherboard will get you the best results in terms of graphics and overall performance. Aside from the two 95-watt CPUs, AMD also announced a 125-watt octa-core processor for AM3+ socket motherboards called the FX 8370. This CPU has a base clock speed of 4.0 GHz and will be available for the price of $200 starting later this week. The manufacturer says that gamers can build an extremely high-performance machine for about $1100 with the use of the FX 8370 processor. Such a system would also have to incorporated an AMD 990FX or 990X motherboard, a Radeon R9 286 graphics card, a 2TB hard drive and 16 GB of DDR3 1866 RAM

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something a bit better in terms of processing power, AMD also announced that the FX-9590 4.7 GHz CPU will see a price cut in the near future and will be available for purchased for only 230 bucks. Stay tuned as we bring you all the latest news and updates from Pax Prime and beyond.
