2K Games announced today that Bioshock, the highly acclaimed FPS developed back in 2007 by Irrational Games is coming to iOS soon. The company says this will be a faithful port of the original game with the main difference being that you will make use of your iOS device’s touchscreen rather than a keyboard and mouse or a controller. But this is working very smoothly according to various sources so the game doesn’t seem to have been dumbed-down in order to make it more accessible for mobile. However, the iOS version of Bioshock was scaled back a bit in terms of visuals compared to the original, but it wont be very noticeable given that you’ll be playing on a much smaller screen.
We speculated last month that 2K Games might announce a new Bioshock title soon after the company posted a mysterious tweet featuring an image from the game and the message “Come bite the Apple!”. Needless to say, the mystery has now be solved as 2K was actually talking about releasing the game for iOS devices, thus the Apple reference. While this is great news for mobile gamers, it sadly means that a new Bioshock will not be announced any time soon. That’s too bad, I was really looking forward to a new installment. Oh well.
Bioshock will be available on iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad 4, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 5c. Presumably it will also be available for the upcoming iPhone 6 after it launches. 2K didn’t announce a specific release date, just said that we should expect the game to arrive this summer. They haven’t revealed any details in regards to the price either, but suggested that we will be looking at a “premium” game so we assume that it will cost quite a bit more compared to most mobile games, possibly around the $10 mark or even more.
