This last weekend during EVO 2014 NetherRealm Studios revealed the latest fighter to join the Mortal Kombat X roster and it’s none other than the god of thunder himself, Raiden. Currently the company confirmed a total of seven characters for the upcoming game, but we know that the final roster will consist of many more. I suppose the question on everyone’s mind now is: “Who’s next?” That particular bit of info is not known at this time I’m afraid, but we did hear some other interesting news in regards to Mortal Kombat X’s fighters. Back at E3 2014 NetherRealm mentioned that guest characters from other franchises might appear in the game, just as they did in Mortal Kombat 9.
Now creative director Ed Boon also suggests that this is a strong possibility and we should expect to see at least one guest character in Mortal Kombat X. “That was something that was embraced in Injustice and in Mortal Kombat,” Boon said at one point during an interview with MadCatz(via DualShockers) “I think there’s a novelty to having a downloaded guest character, so, I think the chances are pretty high. I don’t think every single one of them will be a guest, but I think the chances of at least one of them will be pretty good.”
As some of you may know Mortal Kombat 9 featured two guest characters: Freddy Krueger and Kratos from the God of War series. Although well received, I doubt that Freddy will make yet another appearance, but a different famous serial killer might. While not actually confirming it, the very same Ed Boon hinted earlier that Jason Voorhees might make it to Mortal Kombat X. When asked by a fan if any Injustice characters will appear in the next game he responded with “Not likely… We dont wanna decapitate Batman.” He was then asked if Jason could appear instead, to which he replied “More likely than a DC Hero.”
That is not a confirmation by itself, but word on the street is that Jason Voorhees was initially meant to appear in Mortal Kombat 9 instead of Freddy Krueger. We think that Boon is indeed considering Jason now given that fans keep asking for him. In any case, we hope that more than one guest character will be featured in Mortal Kombat X so the question again is: “Who’s next?” Hopefully we’ll find out soon. The game releases sometime during 2015 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and the PC.
