Xiaomi has recently launched its previous smartphone, the Mi3 model, in September 2013 and is now preparing the customers for the new generation flagship Mi series which will be released later this month. The company’s founder Lei Jun posted a teaser image on his Weibo account revealing a large number four (4) on a metallic background and the launch date of the smartphone, namely July 22. Afterwards, the co-founder and president of the company, Bin Lin, posted the same image on Facebook and stated “July 22nd, Xiaomi’s annual product launch event. We will tell the story about “The journey of a piece of steel metal””. The image doesn’t give much away but from the statement we can understand that the Mi4 will come with a metal build.
All the rumors indicate that the Mi4 will be an impressive handset featuring a 5.2 or 5.5 inch Full HD display, with a Snapdragon 801 or 805 series chipset, 2 or 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a 13 MP rear camera. However, the specs are mostly unconfirmed apart from the fact that the smartphone will come out with 4G LTE connectivity, which was announced earlier this year by Lei Jun.
Xiaomi is very popular on the Chinese market and is now making its entrance on the Indian market with the Mi3, which features a 5 inch IPS full HD display, a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 441 ppi density, Corning Gorilla glass protection, a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM, high-end camera modules with a 13 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera, 16 GB of internal memory and connectivity options that include 3G, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and NFC. Looking at the specifications of the Mi3, we cannot expect anything less from its successor.
Xiaomi sold 10 million Mi3 smartphones since its release and the company set a goal of selling 60 million Mi4 smartphones in 2014. More details will be known after the device goes official on July 22.
