Samsung is well known for their excellent top-tier devices such as the Galaxy S5 or the Galaxy Note 3. However, the company’s latest line-up seems to be aimed more at the folks who can’t afford to spend a small fortune on a new smartphone. Believe it or not, Samsung just launched four new Galaxy handsets simultaneously and they all feature modest hardware, which should normally translate to modest pricing. All four devices run on the Android 4.4 operating system and are equipped with Samsung’s TouchWiz Essence interface, which is basically a simplified version of the standard TouchWiz UI. The new devices are called Galaxy Core 2, Galaxy Ace 4, Galaxy Young 2, and Galaxy Star 2.
The second handset in the Core series, Samsung’s Galaxy Core 2 features a leather-like back cover and is available in black and white variants. The device sports a 4.5-inch panel and comes equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 768 MB RAM, 4GB internal storage memory, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and 2.000 mAh battery. Galaxy Core 2 also comes with Dual-SIM support and a microSD card slot for additional internal memory of up to 64GB.
Next in line, the Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 comes in 3G and LTE variants and is available in black and white colors. Both variants feature a 4-inch display, 5 MP rear camera, and 4GB internal storage memory, which can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD. The 3G model comes equipped with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512 MB RAM and 1.500 mAh battery. The LTE version is a bit more powerful and features a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM, and 1.800 mAh battery.
The last two devices, Galaxy Young 2 and Galaxy Star 2 both sport a 3.5-inch panel are are quite similar in terms of specs as well. The handsets come equipped with a single-core 1GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, 1.300 mAh battery, and 4GB internal storage memory. Galaxy Young 2 features a 3MP rear camera while the Galaxy Star 2 only comes with a 2MP shooter.
Samsung hasn’t revealed details regarding the price or availability for the new handsets yet, but given the low-end hardware, these smartphones will most likely come with a pretty low price tag.
