Android enthusiasts everywhere have been waiting forever to get their hands on the highly sought after OnePlus One smartphone. According to a recent report by Android World, buyers from Europe will have to wait a little bit longer for their handsets to arrive. The devices have been shipped by the company, but they were halted at customs and then sent back due to an error in design. OnePlus decided to change the CE icon on the back of the smartphone, which was deemed unacceptable by EU customs so they just returned all the OnePlus One phones.
It will take at least another two weeks for the necessary changes to be made and the OnePlus One devices to be sent back to customers. In order to make it up to them, the company will offer a free cover and an additional screen protector to the affected buyers. They can also get a full refund if they choose to, but given how hard it is to get a hold of the phones in the first place I think most would rather wait a little longer. Below you can find an email sent to European customers in which the company explains the whole situation.
“Thank you for ordering from oneplus.net. Unfortunately due to an issue with customs in Europe, one of our shipments has been delayed on its way to the warehouse. Your order was among the affected. The issue stems from our vision for the design of the OnePlus One. For the back cover, we wanted the regulatory icons and text to be in harmony with each other and appear be as minimalistic as possible. In order to achieve this, we modified the CE icon to match the other icons. This was deemed unacceptable and our shipment was returned.
You placed an order that was planned to be shipped last week. Due to unforeseen issues with our product design, we need two more weeks until we can ship. Please accept from us a complimentary cover and screen protector (when they become available later this month) as a token of good faith. You may also cancel your order and receive a full refund. We sincerely apologize on behalf of the entire OnePlus Team for causing you such inconvenience, and hope you forgive us for making such mistakes in the course of our growth.”
