The mere mentioning of a new DOOM game always manages to get me excited. We’ve heard all sorts of rumors and speculation in recent years, but nothing solid was revealed until now. Previously referred to as Doom 4, the new title finally received a teaser trailer, which was presented during E3 2014. Although the trailer doesn’t reveal much, it somehow managed to get my blood pumping. Perhaps the huge cybernetic demon had something to do with it, who knows. In any case, the big news here is that DOOM will be revealed in all of it’s glory at QuakeCon 2014.
The convention takes place during July 17-20 in Hilton Anatole, Texas. Based on the name, you might be inclined to believe that this is a place where you’ll mostly find things related to Quake, but this is not entirely the case. While it originally started as that, the event is now known as the “Woodstock of gaming”, a place where gamers from around the world can bring their computers and participate in a variety of tournaments. Quake still plays a large role of course, but I think everybody will be more excited about the new DOOM title this year. Just a hunch.
DOOM is being developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game will be available for Xbox One, PS4, and the PC. Bethesda announced earlier this year that everyone who pre-orders Wolfenstein: The New Order will receive a DOOM beta key. Unfortunately, the company didn’t reveal when the beta testing phase will start so we’re all left guessing. The good news is that we will most likely find out at QuakeCon, along with some other important details. I just hope that the upcoming title will be better that Doom 3. Don’t get me wrong the game was alright, but I know they can do better.
