As you might have guessed from the title, Batman: Arkham Knight has been delayed until next year. IGN reports that the announcement was made at an event they’ve attended recently. The game was initially meant to come out on October 14, but it seems this isn’t the case anymore. Strangely enough, Rocksteady Studios didn’t reveal any particular reason for the game’s delay. This is most unfortunate given that Batman: Arkham Knight was one of the most anticipated games of the year. The title is supposed to be the final chapter in the highly acclaimed Arkham series so naturally fans have been eager to get their hands on it for some time. Especially after all the awesome footage that has surfaced in the last few months.
We assume the company is still somewhat behind with the development process of the game. Or maybe they figured October wasn’t such a good month to release Batman: Arkham Knight after all. A lot of other high-profile titles will be released around that time as well. Alien: Isolation, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Evolve, and the Evil Within are just a few of the big hitters coming out in October. In any case, this delay means that Rocksteady has even more time on their hands for the development process. Let’s hope they used it wisely and are planning to create their best title to date.
Rocksteady’s Dax Ginn talked about the delay with Kotaku last month. The reason why we’re only hearing about this now is that Kotaku was under embargo so they couldn’t say anything back then. “Now Batman: Arkham Knight is totally awesome,” Ginn said. “The thing about awesome, though, is awesome takes time. And totally awesome takes a lot of time. So in collaboration with our colleagues at Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics, we have decided to extend the development time of Batman: Arkham Knight. Now, the very simple reason for doing this is to ensure we are delivering the awesome level of quality that Batman fans and gamers expect from this, the final episode and the epic conclusion to the Rocksteady Arkham trilogy. The Dark Knight will face his ultimate challenge in Batman: Arkham Knight now to be released in 2015.”
Batman: Arkham Knight is now the latest game to be delayed until 2015. This has been a recent trend among developers recently for some reason. Other highly anticipated titles delayed until next year include: Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Order: 1886, Quantum Break, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Batman: Arkham Knight will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and the PC…eventually.
