Crytek and Deep Silver have officially announced Homefront: The Revolution today. We’ve reported earlier that a well-known industry insider said that a trailer for the next Homefront title will be revealed today. It seems he was right after all. The announcement trailer was posted on youtube just a few hours ago and can be viewed above. The upcoming title has been in development for about three years now, but it will still take some more time before we can play it. David Stenton, Game Producer at Crytek Nottingham claims that the original Homefront formula has been radically overhauled. He also shared some much needed details regarding the game on the Play Station blog.
“Homefront: The Revolution is a game about Guerrilla Warfare. We’ve built upon the core pillars of Crytek’s FPS design philosophy – emergent gameplay and player freedom in a sandbox world – to create our most ambitious title to date. Set in Occupied Philadelphia in a nightmarish near-future dystopia, Homefront: The Revolution casts the player as a civilian-turned-freedom-fighter who must rise up and lead the Resistance against a superior military force and ignite the Second American Revolution.” Stenton also explains that we’re not dealing with a plain linear shooter here. The game was created in such a way that it will be very challenging and you will have to master the art of guerrilla warfare in order to stand a chance. In Homefront: The Revolution you will have to use tactics such as sabotage, assassination, and infiltration if you want to be successful at loosening the enemy’s grip on the city.
Luckily, you don’t have to be alone in this endeavor. Crytek announced that the game will feature a four-player co-op mode. This will allow you and your friends to form a Resistance Cell against the KPA regime. Homefront: The Revolution will use the in-house Cryengine in order to deliver top-notch graphics quality. The gameplay trailer shows off some of the engine’s capabilities and gives us an idea on what to expect from the game once it releases. From what was revealed today, Revolution seems to be very promising and is definitely a vast improvement over the original title. More details on the game will be unveiled at E3, which takes place during 10-12 June in Los Angeles.
Homefront: The Revolution is currently in development for Xbox One, PS4, and the PC. The game will be released sometime during 2015. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
