Microsoft has announced today that Forza Horizon 2 will be making its way to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 later this year. The sequel to 2012’s Forza Horizon is currently being developed by Playgroud Games and Turn 10 Studios and will be arriving sometime this Fall. IGN reports that the two companies plan on making Xbox One the platform of choice for racing game fans. “[Turn 10 and Playground] share this belief that we can create a true home for racing fans on Xbox One,” said Horizon 2 creative director Ralph Fulton. They also mention that Playground Games is only developing for this version, the Xbox 360 version will be handled by Sumo Digital.
Forza Horizon 2 will reportedly feature hundreds of cars, including the superb Lamborghini Huracan. Forza 5’s “Drivatar” is said to be making a comeback for the upcoming title. Additionally, the weather system that fans have been asking for will also be available in the next installation. IGN says that the game is not set in Louisiana as it was previously rumored. Instead, Forza Horizon 2 will take place in Southern Europe and will feature “incredible diversity” and “amazing vistas” according to Ralph Fulton. As with any Forza title, music will play an important role here as well. The report says that we can expect the game’s activities to revolve around some sort of music festival. Sounds very exciting!
The original Forza Horizon came out back in 2012 and was also developed by the same folks at Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios. The game is part of the Motorsport franchise, a highly acclaimed series of racing sims exclusive to the Xbox. Forza is one of Microsoft’s crown jewels and is seen by many as a response to Sony’s own popular racing franchise, Gran Turismo. No mention has been made in regards to an exact release date, just that it will arrive sometime this Fall. Stay tuned for more updates and news.
