Killzone Intercept DLC arrives in June and adds 4 player co-op

Sony Entertainment announced via a blog post that Killzone Shadow Fall will feature four-player co-op once the Intercept DLC kicks in. The content pack is scheduled to arrive this June, and will include four new arena maps inspired by locations from the single player campaign.

“Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept places you and up to three of your friends on the elite VSA team known as Intelligence Squad Alpha. Operating behind enemy lines, your team is on a mission to intercept and relay Helghast military transmissions back to VSA headquarters. To succeed, you’ll need to keep Helghast interlopers at bay long enough to establish a Hacking Uplink and transmit the data.”

The Intercept DLC also adds four unique classes dubbed as ‘Combat Roles’ to Killzone Shadow Fall. These new roles are meant to promote teamwork and cooperation which will be crucial if players are to survive. A short description of each Combat Role can be found below.

Assault: The Assault Combat Role specializes in close-quarters combat. The Assault wields a modified version of the LS36 Breacher shotgun, which enables him to quickly dispense enemies that have broken through Intelligence Squad Alpha’s defenses.

Marksman: The Marksman Combat Role is equipped for medium and long range encounters which make him ideal to scout for enemy movement. The Marksman carries a modified version of the powerful LS70 rifle with explosive rounds, allowing him to take out multiple enemies with a single shot before they become a threat to other teammates.

Medic: The Medic carries the supplies required to keep him teammates in fighting shape. This Combat Role is mainly support-oriented, and focuses on healing, reviving and resuplying the other members of Intelligence Squad Alpha.

Tactician: The Tactician Combat Role is geared towards defending Intelligence Squad Alpha’s base and Uplinks. The Tactician can use his nanoshield and sentry turrets to put pressure on enemy attack routes, giving his teammates more time to react.

The enemies of Intelligence Squad Alpha that go by the name of Helghast also have their unique set of goals and Combat Roles. Adapting to the situation will be very important as the enemies will switch tactics once they manage to capture one of your Uplinks. Additionally, they also have the ability to call down Helghast champions if needed. You might end up recognizing some of these champions as they are based on important Killzone Shadow Fall characters.

Intercept DLC arrives in June and will be available for all Season Pass holders. The content pack will also be made available as a standalone expansion later this year, but the exact price is unknown at this time. Sony mentions that more details will come next week so stay tuned as we’ll be keeping you up to date once we learn something new.
