Microsoft revealed a trailer for a cryptic Halo game at E3 last year, but has only now confirmed it’s name: Halo 5: Guardians. The game also recieved a launch windows in 2015, meaning that we won’t get the next chapter in the series this year. Thankfully this is not all the info Microsoft release on the new first person shooter.
The new game has been described as a “massive and exciting project” by Bonnie Ross, general manager of developer 343 Industries. “Making a Halo game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial”, she said. “It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the Halo game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One.”.
At last year’s E3, 343 Industries confirmed that the game will be 1080p 60 FPS on Xbox One, a feature that not many games on the platform can boast. Most games on Xbox One have launched with lower resolutions, 720p, 792p and 900p becoming the norm for the new platform. It seems that 1080p can be achieved on the Microsoft platform, but special optimization and tools need to be developed for it, and that’s why Halo seems to be launching next year.
It seems that the game will build on the pillars of Halo 4, the technology used to develop Xbox 360’s last game in that series being retooled for the Xbox One. Ross also confirmed that the Halo journey on Xbox One will start in 2014, even though Halo 5: Guardians will launch in 2015. This might suggest that the rumored Halo 2: Anniversary may come in the fall, or that a beta version of Halo 5 might be bundled with another game, as was the case with other games in the series in the past.
More information in this regard was promised at the E3 conference on June 9.
