We’ve got a beast of a tablet in a very small form factor. The size of the screen and resolution are the same as an iPad Mini, so we can suspect that the device will be similar in size as Apple’s tablet. Everything is tucked in a case that’s only 8.5 mm thick, albeit made of glossy plastic. It will weigh 360 grams and will come in lots of colors: red, yellow, blue, green, white and black.
What will the Mi Pad cost? The 16GB version is priced at CN¥1,499, which is the equivalent of about $240, while de 64GB version costs CN¥1,699, or about $270. Considering costs for transport overseas from China, we can assume that when (if) it launches worldwide it may cost $249 for 16GB and $299 for the 64GB.
The announcement of a tablet is somewhat unexpected coming from Xiaomi, a company that stated in the past that has no intention on entering this market, but not a total surprise. Xiaomi launched it’s MIUI interface for the Google Nexus 7 in March, giving us some hints at what it’s working on.
What do you think about this new Mi Pad? Is it enough to put Xiaomi on the tablet manufacturer map?
