For some time now, rumors have surfaced about a new HTC device, namely the HTC One (M8) Prime. Rumors suggest that it will have an upgraded hardware compared to the HTC One (M8) and also a QHD screen. Rumors also surfaced about a premium edition of the Samsung Galaxy S5 offering a metal body and QHD display. We will pit against each other the two Primes based on information currently available from rumors.
HTC One (M8) Prime
The design of the HTC One (M8) Prime will closely resempble it predecessor, offering the same aluminum design and front facing speakers. The HTC One (M8) Prime will sport a 5.5-inch QHD display with 2K resolution and 534ppi. It will probably run the latest Android 4.4.3 KitKat. On the inside it will use the Sanapdragon 805 APQ8084 SoC chip with a quad-core 2.5 Ghz Krait processor and 3GB of RAM. For now we know that it will have 16GB internal storage but this may change over time.
The dual-camera setup found on the HTC One (M8) is rumored to make its appearance on the Prime too. The 18MP main camera will have a 5MP secondary camera on top of it for depth. According to rumors, the new device will feature the Qualcome MDM9x35 multimode modem, capable of 300Mbps downlink and LTE TTD.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime
The new, premium edition of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will feature a metal shell and a new QHD display capable of 2560 x 1440 resolution. This information comes after an alleged leaked image of the device. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is rumored to make an appearance in June and some suggest that it will be a limited edition.
Spec wise, the new Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a complete hardware overhaul. Talks suggest a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chip with a 2.5 Ghz Krait processor and 3GB of ram. It will also feature a new GPU, the Andreno 420. So far we don’t know if the camera will be upgraded as well but consideng that the S5 has a 16MP main camera, there isn’t much to improve on.
Conclusion
Spec wise, the two are almost identical. The HTC One (M8) Prime and the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will be worthy contenders to the still unreleased LG G3. With the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime rumored to be released in June, we will have to wait and see in Samsung will manage make the new device as popular as the S5 even if it might only be a limited edition. The HTC One (M8) Prime is rumored to come out in September 2014 and it will probably become the company’s new flagship smartphone. Considering all the new devices expected to make an appearance this year, HTC and Samsung will have a tough competition.
