Outlast, one of the most terrifying titles from last year gets new content in the form of Whistleblower. Red Barrels announced that the game’s first DLC will makes its way to PS4 and PC on May 6 (May 7 for Europe) and will be available for $8.99. A new trailer was released in preparation for the upcoming content, which shows off the Mount Massive Asylum and all the new horrors that lie within.
This time around you’ll be playing as Waylon Park, a software engineer under contract with the Murkoff Corporation. He is the man responsible for informing journalists, including Miles Upshur – the original game’s protagonist – about the atrocities that were taking place at the asylum. Whistleblower introduces players to the events that lead to Outlast, and stretches past the original game to reveal the true final chapter in the story.
“Players meet Waylon a few weeks into his time at Mount Massive, during which he has been unable to even contact his wife and son thanks to strict security protocols. Having developed a deep-seated distrust of the profit-motivated scientists and doctors leading dangerous and irresponsible experiments on their patients, Waylon ends up setting events in motion that lead to the unmasking of Mount Massive’s rotten core.”
Red Barrels is a company founded by people that have previously worked on titles such as Uncharted, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed.Their goal is to deliver unforgettable experiences to the players and most seem to agree that Outlast is one of them, being considered by many to be the scariest survival horror of 2013. The developers announced on their website that the original game will be at a discount for a limited time next week. They also mention that the discount will only be available for the PC version, and encourage potential buyers to keep an eye on RedBarrelsGames.com for upcoming details.
